About Maulana Abul Kalam Azad– He as the first Education Minister of India has contributed significantly to laying the foundation of India’s education system. He served in this role for 11 years from 5 August 1947 to 2 February 1958. It was during his tenure that the UGC, AICTE, and Secondary School Board were established. He was a leader and played the most crucial role in developing India’s education system. He was also a part of the Indian Independence movement. He believed in socialism and secularism. In the year 1992, he was also awarded the posthumous honour of the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.
His contribution to the Indian education system – He established the top colleges of the country like Jamia Millia Islamia and IIT Kharagpur. He introduced UGC, AICTE, and Secondary School Board levels. He also established the Sahitya Academy, Lalit Kala Academy, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Sangeet Natak Academy, and the Scientific and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). He laid special emphasis on different societal importance like universal primary education, girls’ education, free compulsory education for all children under the age of 14, vocational training, and technical education.
